NHC Set List – 24 Aug 2008

(This post is part of Sunday Setlists)

  • Rock & Roll (Led Zeppelin)
  • Let The Praises Ring (Lincoln Brewster)
  • Salvation Is Here (Joel Houston)
  • Nothing But The Blood (Matt Redman)
  • How He Loves (John Mark McMillan)

It went great this morning!  I really enjoyed being part of it.  Yvette was fantastic singing Led Zeppelin’s Rock & Roll which started off the service.

How He Loves stands out from the normal type of worship songs we would do.  The lyrics are different – they are imaginative and it does not have any of the routine rehashed worship lines in it.  The lyrics flow and it really is a great song to worship with.

However, if John Mark McMillan had run the lyrics past me prior to releasing the song I probably would have questioned the use of the line “So heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss…“!  I told you the lyrics were different.  ;-)

I love the chorus

Yeah He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves

Gary’s thoughts on this morning can be found here.  Next week I will be leading as Gary is off on vacation.  Yeah it scares me, oh how it scares me, oh how it scares me, oh how it scares… :-)

  1. Hey man, thanks again for being a part of Sunday Setlists.

I love that song … we started out with a modified lyric, then went back to the “sloppy wet kiss” lyric, and now, Pastor has asked us to revert back to the modified lyrics … so we sing
“heaven meets earth where no words can express” …

Just doesn’t have the same ummph, if you ask me!

  2. Hah hah… you modified the lyric! Love it! You’re kind of changing the entire meaning of the line though… don’t you think?

  3. so man tell us more about how and why Rock and Roll by the Zep?
id love to have heard that

  4. Ha, love your rewrite on the chorus there. However, nothing to be scared of…you’ll do great. See you at 4:30 Wed morning :)

  5. hahaha… anyone that can get away with opening a worship set with Led Zepplin can only be described as a genius! love it!!!

“Let the Praises..” is a great combination with “Salvation is here”. Good stuff.

You’ll do fine next week mate… keep you prayer though just in case!!!! :)

  6. Hah, I love seeing stuff like this pushed out. What a wonderful blessing to be in a place where you have this kind of freedom of expression.

I’m sure my last Sunday would be the one in which I led a song including sloppy wet kissing. What a way to go that would be.

  7. How does Led Zepplin songs glorify Jesus my friends?

  8. Fred Jones – It’s OK to use your real name John McC. ;-)

It was a service opener to tie with the overall theme of ‘Amplify’. The series should be available to watch on the church website. I believe week 1 is already up there.

  9. I for one am excited for any worship service you lead. I know that I speak for multiple NHC peeps when I say that you and your family have been a HUGE addition to the family and we are so lucky to have ya’ll. :)

  10. So… I have been looking for this song and finally found it by googling it and YOUR blog came up.

    Sloppy wet kiss???
    That line needs to stay.
A sloppy wet kiss is one that happens when we kiss spontaneously, passionately, emotionally and without reserve, or worrying if we have porridge stuck on our mouth.
    NO HOLDING BACK!!!
I have to say….. when heaven meets earth when I worship Him…it IS a SLOPPY WET KISS….
It’s intimate, messy (from my side especially) and passionate. He doesn’t hold back…why would I?

Changing that line is like so many things about traditional, institutionalized ‘c’hurch that makes me wonder …

    WHEN CAN WE BE REAL!!!?????

    blessings blessings and joy
