I only worked a half day today. I was going to the airport – home at last! I got the taxi from my apartment and headed to the airport. I had got the email from Continental last night about checking in on-line. I didn’t bother – the lines are never that long.
Sure enough, when I was dropped off and went into the terminal, the line was empty – cool! I went straight to the check-in desk and swiped my passport. A message appeared on the screen – “Your flight itinerary has changed.”
Really?
I asked the lady at the counter and it was explained to me that the flights had been cancelled due to “thunderstorms” and they had very nicely booked me on tomorrow’s flights instead. Not only that but they booked a late flight out tomorrow that left me with a 20 minute layover in Newark. There was a very good chance I’d miss the Newark flight. Been there, done that.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I phoned the taxi and he returned to the airport. When I got back to the office I phoned Continental and managed to negotiate an earlier flight out of Durham to leave plenty of time for my Newark flight.
So, I’m back in my apartment for another night. There’s nothing in the fridge because I threw it all out. Brilliant. I miss my wife. I miss my kids. And – I miss my guitar.
But, it’s not all bad. Lindsay and Jennifer looked after me tonight and took me to Kanki. Thanks guys!
